Job Description
The Bookkeeper reports to the Executive Director and plays an integral role in handling the day-to-day bookkeeping for the school. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, collaborative, participative, who works closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Trustees, the senior leadership team, staff and faculty, parents, and external partners to ensure the school operates in a financially sustainable manner.Â
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Â
Handle all bookkeeping for the school including:Â Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Financial Reporting, Bank Reconciliations, Cash Flow, and more.
Coordinate and manage the finance functions of the school in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and develop effective internal control policies.
Keep the senior leadership team, Executive Director, Board of Trustees, and budget managers updated on the financial status of the school through timely and accurate reports, including forecasting and budget variances, monthly and annual financial statements, and other needed or requested financial reports.
Manage organizational cash flow.  Ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees. Ensure timely and accurate tax filings.
Adhere to financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Handle all banking, cash flow, loans and lines of credit.
Assist the school in identifying and securing alternative revenue streams.
In partnership with the Director of Admissions, help facilitate the enrollment of new students and re-enrollment of current students through the creation and distribution of student contracts and relevant communication
In partnership with the Financial Aid Committee, manage the financial aid process and ensure awards are in accordance with the school’s stated policies.
Review and implement insurance policies needed to effectively manage risk.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & QUALITIES
Â
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
At least 5Â years years of full charge bookkeeping / accounting experience ideally with experience working in a non-profit and/or school-based environment.
Exceptional capacity for building relationships and working collaboratively with people.
Willingness to work in close partnership with other organizational leaders and the Board of Trustees to help fulfill the vision and strategic goals of the school.
Ability to translate financial concepts to and to effectively collaborate with colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong technology skills.
Experience with QuickBooks, Google Docs & Sheets, and MS Office and ability to easily learn new software programs, and a desire to work smarter not harder.
Keen organizational and analytical skills with an attention to details.
