Position Summary:
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout the facilities.This position performs routine and deep cleaning duties to ensure all classrooms, offices, common areas, restrooms, meeting spaces, and other assigned locations meet organizational cleanliness, health, and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cleaning and Sanitization
• Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of classrooms, offices, conference rooms, hallways, restrooms, entrances, cafeterias, and common areas.
• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors and surfaces.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, including doorknobs, handrails, light switches, desks, tables, and shared equipment.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles and properly dispose of waste.
• Clean windows, mirrors, glass surfaces, and fixtures.
• Replenish restroom supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
• Assist with periodic deep-cleaning projects as directed.
Facility Maintenance Support
• Report facility maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, and supply shortages to the Housekeeping Coordinator.
• Assist in maintaining the overall appearance and safety of buildings and grounds.
• Set up and break down rooms for meetings, training sessions, and special events as needed, in collaboration with other Facilities Staff.
• Follow organizational procedures for handling cleaning chemicals, equipment, and materials.
Equipment Operation
• Safely operate and maintain powered and manual housekeeping equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, and other custodial tools.
• Ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and stored appropriately after use.
• Use cleaning chemicals and disinfectants in accordance with manufacturer instructions and safety standards.
Safety and Compliance
• Comply with all safety protocols, infection control procedures, and workplace policies.
• Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
• Maintain a safe working environment for students, staff, visitors, and coworkers.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working in educational and administrative settings.
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 pounds without assistance.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods.
• Must be able to utilize step stools and ladders safely.
• Must be able to negotiate staircases, tight spaces, and confined areas.
• Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate housekeeping equipment and cleaning tools.
• Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, as needed, and tolerate exposure to cleaning products and varying environmental conditions.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial, housekeeping, janitorial, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality required.
• Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with students, staff, visitors, and vendors.
