TITLE: LPN
SCHEDULE: FULL TIME DAYS WITH OCCASIONAL SATURDAYS 7:30AM-4:00 PM OR LATEST 10:30AM-7:00 PM
PAYRATE:$33/HR-$35.56/HR
POSITION TYPE: TEMPORARY FOR 4 WEEKS
LOCATION: KINGSTON, NY

SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe, quality patient care and services under the direction of Registered Nurse. The LPN is also a member of a designated care team and collaborates with team members in achieving goals. The LPN is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the Department and the Organization.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Provides patient care in accordance with  policies and procedures.
Implements nursing care in accordance with the patient’s plan of care.
Demonstrates competency in performing treatments and procedures.
Assists in achieving patient’s respiratory needs:
Aerosol and inhalation treatments
Encourages coughing and deep breathing
Performs oral and endotracheal suctioning
Performs therapeutic procedures and treatments: Inserts and removes foley catheters
Performs EKGs
Phlebotomy for blood collection
Insert IV and maintains line
Assists patient with and reinforces use of therapeutic equipment (i.e., incentive spirometer, hot and cold packs)
Prepares & administers medication and observes patients’ response
Obtains and records: Vital Signs
Assists other professionals with procedures and treatments.
Transports specimens as needed.
Maintains a clean, organized patient care environment.
Prepares patient for tests and procedures.
Incorporates measures in delivering care to cost effectively utilize resources of time, people and supplies.
Initiates CPR and code blue.
Coordinates ER referrals.
Assembles oxygen tanks and suctioning equipment.
Prepares patient and environment for tests and procedures.
Documents nursing interventions and patient responses.
Ability to safely administer any medication allowed by N.Y. State law and in accordance with policies and procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of action, dosage and side effects of medications.
Communicates changes in the patient’s condition to the team members.
Provides for patients’ safety.
Implements the learning objectives identified by the registered nurse/health team.
Provides, when appropriate, instruction to the patient, family or significant other.
Reports problems encountered in health teaching to the team members.
Documents evaluation of patient education provided.
Performs other nursing activities as assigned approved by Nursing.
Provides the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
Set priorities and delivers care to meet the needs of the patients.
Practices infection control standards.
Maintains the privacy and dignity of the patient(s) at all times.
Other duties as assigned or when necessary
Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others.
Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and
extended community.
Demonstrates  professional, courteous and respectful attitude in dealing with clinical practice staff.
Provides information to patients, family and significant others regarding community resources and Support services.
Practices as a member of the interdisciplinary care team via effective and respectful communication and collaboration.
Reinforces patient education.
Documents all aspects of nursing care performed according to hospital policy and procedure.
 May be required to perform other duties as assigned or when necessary.
 


QUALIFICATIONS

Certificate of completion from a practical nurse course of study.
Minimum 1-2 years of experience working within an ambulatory setting preferred.
Demonstrated clinical, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and administer medications including immunizations.
Demonstrated basic computer skills including typing.
Bi-lingual Spanish preferred.
Demonstrated ability to organize care and activities of multiple patients.
Current New York State LPN license and registration.
Current BCLS, Infection Control Child Abuse Certificates required.
