School Social Worker/Behavioralist ABA Location: Kingston NY Salary: $60,000.00 Type: Full Time Perm
The position works in conjunction with the school Assistant Principle and the Licensed Social Worker and is responsible for providing individual, group, and family therapy to children and their families or caregivers Communicating with family, community members, and social services liaisons is also a vital part of this position. Position Responsibilities:
Provides psychiatric support and therapy to students and their caregivers and documents such according to agency and professional standards.
Provides individual counseling and treatment, trauma-informed counseling and treatment, family and group counseling, transitional counseling
Structures interventions to decrease problem behavior and increase positive behavior
Establishes treatment goals for children, utilizing historical and current available information in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team
Assists children and youth to develop skills as defined in treatment goals
Promotes integration with community resources and skill-building, assist in providing community resources to families in need
Functions as a team member, by communicating effectively and consistently with family, case planning staff and medical practitioners
Provides psychoeducation and wellness education
Enhances compliance with behavioral expectations.
Utilizes interventions drawn from evidence-based psychotherapeutic methodology
Demonstrates competence in dealing with children and families from diverse backgrounds Conduct workshops for parents
Make needed referrals for health and professional services and access to public benefits;
Provide workshops and support to school staff to educate them on the issues facing students with mental health matters and the social-emotional needs
Provide services based on the child's IEP (Individual Education Plan)
Provide teacher outreach, gathering information about students (also keeping track of which teachers responded and reaching out a second time to those who have not) and for information from teachers for our special education students
Attend weekly counseling department and attendance meetings
Demonstrates working knowledge of:
-Normative child and adolescent development
-Indicators of developmental delay or disability The effects of trauma, abuse, separation and loss
-Family systems theory as well as family therapy
-Human sexual development and behavior
-Indicators of alcohol or substance abuse
-Neglect and family violence
Participates in ongoing professional education
Perform other duties as required
Essential Skills and Experience:
Ability to speak, read, and writes English fluently, which allows full communication with agency staff and 3rd
Previous experience with child welfare system, foster care health care requirements
Working knowledge of computer accounting system, spreadsheet, and word processing software (Excel and Word).
Possess a valid driver license with a driving record acceptable to our client’s insurance carrier and possess the ability to drive agency vehicles to other agency sites and places for training purposes.
Ability to use sound judgment while following agency policies, practices and procedures.
Education, Training, & Experience:
Licensed Master's Level Social Worker, marriage and family therapist or mental health counselor
School Social Worker Certification Preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years of previous clinical experience preferred
Previous experience in medical of mental health field preferred
Bilingual Spanish & English a plus
